About 440 thousand people in Kazakhstan suffer from gambling addiction, which constitutes three percent of the population. Such statistics were shared in the Mazhilis by the Deputy General Director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Mental Health of Almaty, Daulet Baipeisov.
During his speech in Parliament, the expert noted that ludomania is a pathological attraction to gambling. It is classified as an addiction-related mental disorder. Its worldwide spread is estimated to range from 0.12% to 5.8% of the population. Meanwhile, about 12.5% of the adult population regularly engages in gambling.
“Thus, with mathematical modeling, if we transfer these figures to Kazakhstan, we get the following picture. The prevalence of the pathology can reach up to 442 thousand people, that is, three percent of the population,” said Baipeisov.
